George Soros Gives Billions to the Open Society Foundations

Home | Business Giant | George Soros Gives Billions to the Open Society Foundations

George Soros is one of the world’s leading Philanthropists. He has given more than $40 million from his wealth to fund organizations. George Soros is the Chairman of the Soros Fund Management, a firm that is based in New York. He is also the founder of Open Society Foundations. Mr. Soros gave $40 million to a nonprofit corporation called Open Society Foundations. In 1993 he established Open Society Institute to support the growth of democratic institutions all through the Soviet Union and Eastern and Central Europe. In 2013, the Open Society Foundation presented $185 million in donations that included $11.3 million to a college by the name Bard to support cooperative liberal, fine art programs to four universities.Under his management, the Open Society Foundations ensured the organizations and individuals across the globe could fight for freedom of expression, a society that promotes equality and justice, and accountable government. The foundation also provided thousands of school fees and university fees to the hopeful students who otherwise would have been excluded from opportunity because of where they live or their identity.

Most of his giving often concentrated to those who faced discrimination only because of who they are. In Europe, he supported a group of Roma people who were pushed to the limits of mainstream society like sex workers, LGBTI people, and drug users. Born in 1930 in Hungary, Mr. Soros experienced firsthand intolerance. Between 1944 and 1945 he survived through Nazi occupation which resulted in the massacre of more than 500,000 Hungarian Jews. Many of his Jewish family endured by securing fabricated identity papers that canceled their background and they also helped others do the same. As the Communalists consolidated supremacy in Hungary after the conflict, George left Budapest to London in 1947. For him to support his educations at London School of Economics, he worked as a waiter in the nightclub and also as a railway porter part-time.He relocated to the United States in 1956 where he entered the world of investment and finance where he made his fortune.

With this wealth, he created Open Society Foundations which is a project, a partner and network of foundations in more than 100 nations. Their work and name echo the influence on his thinking of Karl Popper philosophy which he first came across at the school of economics. Popper in his book “Open Society and its Enemies” urges that no ideology or philosophy is the final arbitrator of truth and that the society can flourish if only they allow freedom of expression, respect for individual human rights and democratic governance. That was the approach to the opening of Open Society Foundation. Soros started his philanthropy by giving scholarships to South Africans in 1979 under apartheid. He helped to promote open discussion of ideas in communalist Hungary by financing educational visits to the west and assisting fledgling self-governing cultural groups and other creativities. His giving has stretched beyond his foundations supporting independent organizations such as European Council on Foreign Relations, Global Witness, and International Crisis Group.

Rocketship Education Extends The Cause For Charter Schools

Home | Education | Rocketship Education Extends The Cause For Charter Schools

Rocketship Education has been extending the fight for freedom of choice in the education sector with the development of its own K-5 schools across San Jose, California and now extending its reach across the nation. Co-founder and CEO, Preston Smith has developed a program bringing together a range of different options and admits Rocketship Education has attempted many different ideas and theories about the educational endeavors he hopes will improve both the charter schools of the U.S. and the public school systems he hopes to impact through his own work.

Learning is not solely a pursuit to be explored in the classroom in the view of the experts at Rocketship Education who believe the entire life should be filled with learning opportunities. The model developed at Rocketship Education has evolved since the not for profit opened its doors in 2006 includes a series of options educators believe will provide the best possible future for the students and their families; Rocketship Education does not seek to explore the long-term goals explored by the majority of schools in the public system but instead looks to weekly goals students achieve to gain a consistent sense of pride in their own work.

Finding the correct teachers for Rocketship Education has become one of the most important options for each student and their family to ease them into the mindset of living and learning in the Rocketship Education model. Educators are involved in consistent learning objectives from specialized coaches who can be seen as a threat by some teachers but those with the correct mindset thrive in the long term.

Established in 2006, Rocketship Education has become one of the most successful providers of charter school academics in the U.S. based on a system evolving over the years. The success of Rocketship Education has seen a series of new locations opened after the initial successes seen in California; the group has extended its educational reach to areas of Wisconsin, Nashville, and Washington D.C.

Whitney Wolfe’s Impact on the Dating Application Platform

Home | Dating Apps | Whitney Wolfe’s Impact on the Dating Application Platform

Bumble is a dating application and company worth $ 500 million. It was founded in 2014 by Whitney Wolfe in collaboration with Andrey Andreev, the founder of Badoo. Bumble distinguishes itself from other dating apps by allowing women additional control. A connection can only be achieved if the woman makes the first move. Bumble is one of the most popular dating apps in the world. It currently has a user base of 20 million. European dating company Badoo owns the company. The application has its headquarters in Austin Texas. Whitney Wolfe has earned many titles over the years. Some of them include Forbes 30 under 30, the most important woman under 30 in Tech and Elle’s Women in Tech. Whitney Wolfe hails from Utah, Salt Lake City. She pursued International studies at Southern Methodist University. Her first business was the sale of bags made of bamboo to aid those affected by the oil spill by BP.

Whitney Wolfe wedded Michael Herd in a colorful wedding in Villa Tre Ville, Italy. The couple hired many local artisans to ensure the occasion was stylish from beginning to end. Whitney had a broad itinerary to choose from, which presented an opportunity to showcase an all-star lineup of looks. Festival lighting was the choice for the day. Small Italian boats from the port of the Villa to a beach club transported people. Musicians played Italian classics on the water as people passed. The wedding cake was made on location so that guests could observe the process.

Due to massive requests for a friend finding feature in Bumble, Bumble launched Bumble BFF. BFF displays all other people of the same gender who are also looking for BFF’s. The feature aids people that are on vacation or new to cities. It also helps those that have found a relationship continue using the application. Bumble went further and created Bumble Bizz. Users can switch to bizz mode that expands networks and provides career moves by connecting users to industry leaders, brands, business partners, and potential mentors. Bizz allows users to upload digital resumes, skills and verified photos of their work. The company itself is committed to employing ten people discovered through bizz. Bumble Bizz will be available globally soon. It, however, insists on not being a job searching network but rather a networking and mentoring platform. It is currently available in United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Canada. Bumble has three profiles, and users can manage the profiles separately at once.

Fabletics Finds Great Success with Crowd Sourcing

Home | Fashion | Fabletics Finds Great Success with Crowd Sourcing

Crowdsourcing is a new marketing trend that many companies are capitalizing on. It’s a form of free advertising that most consumers trust. Consumers always used reviews to determine final purchases, but crowd-sourced reviews are online reviews written by customers who’ve already purchased and tested that product or service.

This gives the modern consumer an advantage over traditional promotions. Research shows that consumers trust these online reviews as much as personal recommendations. Crowd-sourced data’s proven to be a valuable tool for success for companies like Fabletics. Fabletics is a customer-based subscription e-commerce brand that’s always embraced their members’ opinions.

Fabletics uses a subscription mechanic so that their designers can get direct inspiration from their members. Every member has their own style preference and Fabletics tries to match them with products that they think their members will like. It’s how Fabletics became one of the most popular activewear brands in the world.

In just under four years, Fabletics attracted 1.2 million monthly members. Like all big-name companies, there are those who’ve tried to tear the company down, but Fabletic’s members are loyal and never let the naysayers dissuade them. Their members love the on-trend fashion at half the price.

Members also love the personal connection Kate Hudson brings to the company. As a co-founder, she has a lot of ideas that make the company more personable. It’s not just a fashion brand peddling products. Hudson’s on a mission to encourage every woman to embrace healthier life choices.

To make every woman feel special, Hudson wanted Fabletics to sell products for all women. Most companies don’t do that because it takes too long to create worthy products, but Hudson didn’t care about time. She wanted all women – regardless of size or age – to feel inspired by Fabletics.

Most activewear companies produce products that only suit highly active people. People who already live healthy, active lives don’t need on-trend fashion to inspire them. Fabletics is about encouraging women to take that first step toward health and fitness. It’s supposed to make feel good about themselves rather than put them in a competitive mindset.

Kate Hudson learned her dedication from her mother, Goldie Hawn. Her mother taught her to never listen to people trying to hold her back. Her mother wanted to start a charity to teach children mindfulness, and she did.
